Dear Readers,
I know the end of the week (and thus, the release of the May, 2008, Orion's Child) is fast approaching, but there is one last bit of good news from Orion Press:
Our own Ariana Baer, who has so diligently been serving as the Art Czarina for the Magazine, is stepping up her game--at my humble request. Beginning NOW she is the Art Editor for Orion's Child Magazine. I really feel this is a necessary move to keep things here running smoothly and on track; after all, the original Orion's Child had Mr. David Wedlake as Art Editor. Ariana is an accomplished professional artist, owner of DarkePhazeGraphiX, and a good friend of mine. She has my every confidence--she knows what Orion's Child is about and has always appeared to save the day. I have included her first press release below:

I am looking for one or more pics to publish in this months copy of Orion's Child. The size needed to be acceptable for the cover would be appx 1024W x 1200H, Portrait style and a dpi of at least 200, in case we have to adjust the image. I prefer to have your permission to add an aditional copyright info to the pic if yours is not bold or ledgible enough. That is for your protection. If you also want to submit smaller pics used as inserted filler throughout the e-zine, that is also needed and encouraged. Jokes and comics that run as periodicals are strongly considered! If you write, poetry, short stories or other items (*such as you attend a sci-fi/fantasy convention and have an interview with a writer/artist) are also valued.
OC is a PG friendly e-zine so that means no naked breasts or butts, absolutely no salacious and/or sexual content weither blatant or innuedo. But unlike some galleries, if say a faerie is nude but showing nothing previously stated, I feel that that is ok.
Remember that the e-zine and your copyright info go on the top and bottom of the pic and is spaced at about 300mp in height, along the entire top and bottom of cover. So be sure that the main charcter of any pic is more centered or not all the way to the top of the image, to avoid being cut off by the header and edition info. *I have an example template I can send to to show where your work will be un-obstructed (*just e-mail me).
One of the requirements I had forgot to mention is that the work cannot be in any gallery prior to the e-zine submission. This is for two reasons, One it drives people to the e-zine, and two if they can see it in an on-line gallery elsewhere, it holds no "New" fascination. Once the cover comes out, if it is chosen to be the cover (*choice is mine and I prefer to let new folks be seen!)
We prefer that it be a new unpublished/unposted work. But if you are using an already published/posted work, please rework it or alter an old to be "new" again, then when the cover comes out you get a copy sent to you for your portfollio, and then you can post the cover in your favorite On-Line Gallery! Be sure to put e-zine credits on that post, (*drives people to view the e-zine!) and you have even better bragging rights!
All OC E-Zines show in the Google search engine automatically, as well as your name as the Artist! So if you search either you will find yourself as a published artist on the web. This will always happen weither you are the cover or used as inside art! This is a great opportunity to have your work listed on Google search, in many blogs and other related sites, like Wikipedia!
We are aware of the "Orphin Works" law and will have a comment about that in each new upcomming e-zine. I personally am championing our rights and will gladly forward info to you if you like.
Here is our copyright statement>
[link] You always retain full rights to your work. It is in/on OC per your permission, once given though it stays on the publication because that is part of the agreement we have made with you.
Once submitted, I will forward your art (*if it is chosen to be on the cover) back to you, as it will look on the cover (*in other words the exact OC cover, and you may then post it where you like on the web, and also keep it for your portfolio as an Artist credit to show clients and customers!) This is a great way to develop a cutomer/fan base. And increase or create sales of your work! If you have questions on selling your art, I am glad to help. California has a new law about LE's that you must be aware of to sell there now.
If you have further questions feel free to e-mail me at> darkephazegraphix@gmail.com
For future issues, (*not excluding this one) we accept all mediums of art, and all subject matter, as long as it still stays loosely within the Fantasy/Sci-Fi genres. Makes sense since that is who reads the e-zine mostly!

Thank you and I hope to see your work on the cover, or inside also!
ThanX!
Ariana Baer
Art Editor, Orion's Child E-Zine

All Submissions are welcome, but the main theme is always Sci-Fi/Fantasy (*which covers lots of area!)
